Art Celebrating Equality – Change the Norm
A Warren Youth Project festival exploring art, gender equality and freedom, run by young women giving all young people the opportunity to work with award winning artists and be part of Freedom Festival Hull and Hull UK City of Culture 2017 celebrations.
The festival started in August 2016 and continued throughout the summer of 2017 at the Warren with a series of free workshops supporting young people to create art expressing their feelings about equality – photographs, an online book of illustrations, digital art, spoken word and puppetry performances.

Art Celebrating Equality is supported by Hull UK City of Culture 2017’s Creative Communities Programme, Arts Council England, Big Lottery Fund and Hull City Council.
Lisa Wedgner, Festival Lead and Warren Can Do Coordinator, said: “This has been a monster of a project and the standard of work produced by young people in the city is incredible. They have really engaged with the artists and bought into the project.
“The Freedom Festival, which this year falls within Hull 2017’s Freedom Season, gives us a fantastic platform to display their work and I can’t wait to see their spectacular achievements projected onto the Warren in September. A big thank you must go to the Lindsey Stockley from the Freedom team.”
Artists Sarah Pennington, Joanne Coates, Bee Willey Illustrator, Anna Ingleby and Catherine Scott have been working with young people at The Warren since early August producing an impressive collection of work covering all areas of art.

The Warren will offer free workshops across Hull, empowering Hull’s young men and women to create art around gender equality and Freedom Part of the 2017 Freedom Festival, performances will feature backdrops of projected images from numerous art forms that challenge gender inequality and celebrate the lives of young people.”
